Art in the Machine Age

Art in the Machine Age KS2

Gallery session and optional art workshop

In this practical session, students will explore how technological changes throughout the last century changed the way people saw the world around them. Focusing on the experiences of acceleration, movement and height brought about by inventions in car manufacture, aviation and construction, students will examine the different techniques Topolski and other artists used to translate this new vision into paint. Throughout the session they will experiment with various visual effects that will enable them to show dynamism and movement in their own art work.

In the optional workshop, students will consider how new technologies, such as mobile phones and social networking, shape their own everyday experience and work together to communicate this through innovative artistic methods.
