The Final Years
The Century’s final, incompleted panels show scenes from Topolski’s later years.
These include his own family members – his first wife Marion, second wife Caryl and his two children. Topolski was painting until a few days before his death on 24 August 1989. Topolski continued the Century in the form of a vivid diary mural, or scroll, 15 feet high and 50 feet long, displaying the extraordinary energy of the artist in his late seventies. The diary scroll will be mounted in the Studio, Arch 158 when sufficient funds have been raised. It is open ended and, in Topolski’s own words, ‘… to be cut short only by nature’s will’.
